Drawn from the novels namesake of Armistead Maupin, the series consisted of 3 seasons, respectively, distributed in 1993, 1996 and 2001 for a total of 16 episodes. Eighteen years later, the series resurfaced, returns to its original characters (Laura Linney, Olympia Dukakis and Barbara Garrick), and introduces newcomers (Ellen Page, Zosia Mamet, or Murray Bartlett).
